Zakariyya of Rey
This rug pays homage to a great Iranian scientist, Abu-Bakr Mohammad Ebn-e Zakariyya Razi (of the city of Rey) who is known in the West as Rhazes. He lived in the 9th century, and he is credited with many discoveries the chemical composition of alcohol and sulphuric acid among them.
He is rendered in the rug in the tradition of Persian miniature painting with his disciples in front of the seminary where he taught.
