SHAH Bahram’s Hunt klim

A  kilim  based on a 15th – century Shiraz miniature. Bahram the Sasanian King is  shooting while his female companion Azadeh (shown here playing the harp) and an attendant look on in amazement.

This is a popular topic for iranian artists and centres on a bet that Bahram and  Arabzadeh made regarding the king,s ability, or lack of to shoot an onager in such a way that the arrow pierced the animal,s hind leg and ear at the same time Bahram  shot the animal when it was scratching one of its ears and won the bet.
