Ferdowsi in the Court of sultan Mahmoud Carpet Panel

In this rug, Master Arabzadeh pays homage to the memory of the poet Ferdowsi (c. 935-c.1020, who has immortalized Iran’s early history in his epic work The Shahnameh (the Book of Kings). the scene portrays (after a painting by the late Hadi Tajvidi) the court of Sultan Mahmoud, the Ghaznavid, where the king and his courtiers listen as Ferdowsi (seated in a chair) recites from the Shahnameh. It took master Arabzadeh nine years to realise this rug from the first sketches to the finished article. More than 800 different colours have been worked into the design, Which is one of the maturest of the master. Fifteen well-known scenes from the Shanameh are portrayed in the borders, each adorned with an apt couplet from the Great epic work.
