The Artist’ s Lot Carpet Panel

This time Master Arabzadeh has turned to lacquerwork to exploit a new source of classical imagery.

The stylized flowers depicted in the rug are among the motifs that Shiraz and  Isfahan craftsmen used to decorate manuscript covers.

On the borderless top of the rug. we find an apt couplet:

What is an artist, ‘s lot but a sigh No – one knows the agony behind his smile.
